The Sweet Sleep System: A Holistic Approach to Your Child’s Sleep

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by sleep advice that didn’t work—or worse, made things harder—you’re not alone. As a sleep consultant, I’ve worked with countless parents who were given solutions that only looked at part of the picture.

A parent comes to me exhausted. Their baby wakes every hour at night. They’ve been told to cut daytime sleep to “save it” for nighttime. So they do. And their baby sleeps even worse.

Why? Because nobody evaluated what was actually causing the problem. Nobody looked at the sleep environment that was making it hard for the baby to stay asleep. Nobody assessed the sleep associations that were waking them every sleep cycle. They assumed the child was getting their full sleep needs and just needed to redistribute them—when in reality, the child wasn’t getting nearly enough sleep to begin with.

That’s why I developed the Sweet Sleep System—a holistic framework that brings all the pieces of the sleep puzzle together, giving you confidence in making sustainable long-lasting changes while minimizing your little one’s tears.

Why Holistic Sleep Consulting?

Sleep doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s influenced by biology, development, environment, daily rhythm, sleep associations, and your parent-child relationship. When we only address one factor—like teaching independent sleep or adjusting nap times—without evaluating everything else, we miss the root cause. We end up with solutions that don’t work, or worse, that make things harder for already exhausted families.

The Sweet Sleep System looks at six essential elements that all work together to support peaceful sleep. Biology, Development, and Attachment are the three foundational pieces—they tell us who your child is and what they need. Once we understand these, we can make informed decisions about the three practical aspects: Environment, Rhythm, and Associations. In other words, we first understand your child deeply, then we use that understanding to shape where they sleep, when they sleep, and how they fall asleep. Let me walk you through each one.

The Six Pillars of the Sweet Sleep System

Biology (The WHY)

This is where everything begins. Understanding your child’s sleep biology is the foundation that informs every other aspect of the Sweet Sleep System.

Most sleep issues develop when a child’s sleep situation isn’t aligned with their biological maturity. When we understand the biology of sleep—how sleep cycles work, how sleep pressure builds, how circadian rhythms develop—we can set realistic expectations, optimize the sleep environment in ways that actually matter, and create a day rhythm that works with your little one’s natural sleep drive. Biology is the “why” behind every recommendation I make.

Attachment (The WHO)

You know your child best – their temperament, their quirks, how sensitive they are. You also have your own parenting philosophy, comfort levels, and attachment style. All this matters a lot when it comes to creating a sleep solution that fits your specific family. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here. Whether you’re a co-sleeping family looking for better sleep or prefer your child in their own room, my approach honors your relationship and your values during the sleep coaching process.

Environment (The WHERE)

Where your child sleeps matters more than you might think. Light, temperature, sound, safety—all of these factors affect how easily your little one falls asleep and stays asleep.

I help you optimize your child’s sleep environment to suit their unique biology and development. When the environment supports sleep, falling and staying asleep becomes easier, which in turn supports an age-appropriate day rhythm and better night sleep overall.

Rhythm (The WHEN)

Timing is everything. An age-appropriate day rhythm, guided by your little one’s biology, ensures your child’s sleep and nutritional needs are met at the right times. A predictable day rhythm promotes better night sleep, easier and longer naps, supports your baby’s development and growth, and results in a happier baby overall. But this isn’t about rigid schedules—it’s about finding the natural flow that works for your child’s age and temperament.

Associations (The HOW)

This is where we address how your child falls asleep. Are there sleep associations that are no longer working for your family? Are you spending hours rocking, feeding, or bouncing to sleep?

When you work with me you’ll get specific and individualized tools based on your child’s temperament and your parenting style to respectfully, yet consistently, change any unhelpful sleep habits. How and when we make these changes is always informed by your child’s biology and development, and supported by the optimal sleep environment and day rhythm we’ve already established, so that we can minimise tears and make everything goes as smoothly as possible.

Bringing It All Together

Here’s what makes the Sweet Sleep System different: we don’t start with sleep training. We start by understanding your child completely—their biology, development, attachment needs, environment, and rhythm. Only then do we address sleep associations, and by that point, the changes often feel natural rather than forced.

This holistic approach means:

  • Fewer tears because we’re working with your child’s natural rhythms, not against them
  • Better results because we’ve addressed all the factors that affect sleep
  • Sustainable changes because the solutions fit your family’s unique needs
  • Confidence because you understand not just what to do, but why it works

Every child is different. Your three-month-old isn’t your friend’s three-month-old. Your parenting journey isn’t anyone else’s. That’s why you need a sleep approach that sees your child as a whole person and your family as unique.

The Sweet Sleep System gives you exactly that—a comprehensive, respectful approach to sleep that brings all the pieces together, so your child can sleep their best for their age and development, and you can rest easy knowing you’re doing right by your little one.
